Description

  • The teacher will demonstrate how to perform a webquest and how to access and use Google documents.
  • Students will then use webquest tools individually to find and select two personal heroes.
  • Each student will summarize their findings and publish a one paragraph summary, per hero, on Google documents in a single document. Students will include their last name in the name of the Google file.
  • Students will be placed into groups of four to discuss their hero findings in an electronic form by sharing their Google document with fellow students in their group.
  • Students will work together to reach consensus on one hero. As a group the students will complete a three page 'Our Hero's document using Google documents to formulate a group final report on the agreed upon hero.
  • A second page will be created and submitted that lists five criteria that were used to determine the agreed upon hero and summarize how consensus was obtained.
  • Students will have two weeks to complete the individual assignment then two weeks to complete the group consensus assignment.
  • One student from each group will post the final project google document URL in an email to the instructor by the due date.

Supporting Resource

According to Ikpeze & Boyd (2007), using "WebQuests can facilitate thoughtful literacy" (p. 647). WebQuests can also allow for collaboration and increased student engagement and motivation, while also improving critical reading through multiple learning tasks.

New and Innovative

Using webquest and google documents would be considered new and innovative. Though most students probably know how to use the internet, probably only a few have used google documents to share a working document electronically to create a final product.
